Production sprint 2: week 1
Our first week of the second sprint has been done , it was a fixer upper week from our side. We've got new additions to the game but also had a lot of background work being done for example some bugfixes that broke the game are now removed from the build!
Other background work has been the animations , UI design and finished up the designing of the sounds everything is ready to be put into the game asap.
Programming
One of our most important bugs got fixed where the camera would break if the first player would go out of screen, this now works as intended again and the game continues even if player 1 were to fail.
This week we also have been busy with fixing 2 other bugs; the bug when players finishing the level and the bug with breakable platform. Right now there is no bug appearing when player crosses the finish line and also the screen with replay button appears. Also right now if player falls from the breakable platform it still can respawn. during the process of working on finish line we faced up a bug that when players press replay button program crashes when they cross finish line again, this problem also was fixed. In the last part we have added a new obstacle: smasher obstacle.
Art
This week we designed and modeled the finish location of the obstacle course. The finish line location, with some narrative elements Golden Beer Mug - as an award for the winner of the race, who first reaches the mug, wins the race. An arch of leaves and a pile of barrels, bottles and mugs of beer mark the end of the obstacle course, showing the abundance of the Vikings feast.
We made new type of platforms- Slowing down mud platforms which slows down the player's movements when he steps on it.
We have made special decals of dirt that help the player understand the area of obstacles activity.
There was also a lot of time spent on making the animation blueprints and the UI menu's design but these will sadly not be visible yet in our playable build, we can understand that these things may lead to a bit of frustration since our playercharacter is still not seen in the game but we are doing our best to make it work asap.
Sound
A lot of the design has been wrapped up this week due to the team working mostly on fixing existing bugs and prepping everything to put in, the implementation has been stalled because of this. This gave us the opportunity to look at everything that still needed to be designed and finish these things off. There are sounds added to our hammer and boat swinging so you can go get a feel on how menacing these obstacles feel.
